Back on home turf, the Tornados faced physically imposing opposition in Leigh Genesis who arrived a player down. Consequently, a number of Haslingden players stepped in to ably assist the visiting team throughout and gained valuable game time.

Both teams began with real intent and a frenetic pace was set from the kick-off. There were individual battles all over the pitch with both teams evenly matched in work rate and willingness to push forward. Following some impressive work by Layla Ashworth in goal, Genesis eventually broke the deadlock with a low, powerful shot from just outside the box.

The Tornados responded with some industrious work in midfield by Chloe Lomax, Olivia Loxton-Cocker and in particular Holly Bridges who was able to exploit the space down the left channel to make some excellent penetrating runs. Her tenacious attitude enabled her to win back the ball from physically bigger opponents on numerous occasions, cementing a Player of the Match performance. Evie Riley's tireless running up front and good link up play on the right resulted in a deflected goal for the Tornados to even the score.

Layla's quick reactions thwarted further attempts on goal before a couple of decisive strikes found the net. The Tornados continued to press forward and another attacking wave led to a nasty challenge on Olivia Loxton-Cocker who had to sit out the remainder of the half, with Louisa Boustouller coming on to do some good work down the right wing.

Still very much in the game, a commanding run forward by Antonia Johannsen-Ward was eclipsed by a spectacular looping shot on goal from 18 yards out, hitting the cross bar and leaving the keeper with no chance, to narrow the gap. The Tornados were now on the front foot and Sophia Aspin's solid work in defence alongside Antonia kept Genesis at bay until a quick counter attack against the run of play opened up the lead.

The second half saw a number of changes with Sophia Baba, Katherine Protheroe and Orla Brinkley doing well at the back to make some crucial interceptions and decisive tackles. Eventually, the physicality and strong pressing by Genesis was rewarded with further goals but the Tornados can be proud of their efforts as this fledgling group of players continue to gel and grow stronger together.
