Haslingden Ladies made the short trip over to Barrowford for their second league cup game in two weeks. Barrowford ladies sit at the top of the championship at the moment, but of course it is early days yet and a long season still to come.
The game started at a fast pace and Haslingden made the much better start, some intricate one touch passing and through balls for the forwards brought a couple of fantastic saves from the Barrowford keeper. But with 10 minutes on the clock some Haslingden broke the deadlock, Simi Atkinson was on hand to finish from 18yards after a beautifully weighted lay off from Evans. Barrowford looked a little shell shocked, but still insisted on playing a very high line, trying to pressure Haslingden in their own half. A dangerous game to play when you have the pace of Ashworth, Atkinson, Pusey and Chadwick running behind you, and the vision of Brierley l, Webbe and Evans to pick the perfect pass.
It wasn’t long before Atkinson got her second, third and fourth of the first half, coupled with a fantastic strike from Evans meant that Haslingden went into half time
5-0 up.
The half time team talk wasn’t really needed as the ladies could sense blood and wanted to keep attacking behind Barrowfords high line. The only issue for the manager was could Haslingden keep the shape and be composed to see the game to the end.
The second half started and Haslingden went on the Attack again, crossing from both wings and putting the Barrowford defence and keeper under pressure. And on 55 minutes Evans headed in from a Chadwick cross to make it 6-0.
The seventh goal was a fantastic solo effort from Ashworth who rounded her marker in midfield, cut through the defence and curled the ball into the top left of the Barrowford goal. Worthy of winning any goal of the month competition.
Haslingden brought on Higginson for her debut, and with only her second touch of the game she made it 8-0 to Haslingden. The final goal came from a cross to the back post for the left back, Sian Atkinson to score.
0-9 was the final result in an outstanding display of football from Haslingden Ladies.
3 games into the season, 21 goals scored and 0 conceded makes this one of the best starts in a long time for this superb team. Well done ladies.
