Hawks show their resilience against Bolton

Hawks travelled to Bolton Wanderers this weekend for a hard battle against a very good side. From the start Eve Hadley went in goal, Daisy Halewood, Izzy Dunne, and Tia Thompson took up defence. Fern Ashworth, Phoebe Williams, and Alex Wilkinson started in midfield with Poppy Millard and Emily Blackburn in attack. Meadow Young, Eloise Freer, Abby Bingham, and Isabelle Dawson started as subs.

The Hawks started strong and were the first to score on 4 minutes with a superb strike from the ever committed captain Ashworth. The Hawks were strong in defence also with Hadley pulling off some great saves. On 12 minutes Ashworth put in a great pass which was finished well by Blackburn. Bolton were strong on the attack as always with a number of shots on target but Dunne, Halewood and Thompson provided great cover and were strong to allow midfield to push on. Bingham added to the score on 18 minutes bringing it to 0-3 to the Hawks.

Maybe the Hawks felt comfortable or carried away by being 3-0 up, but the final 10 minutes of the first half so the Hawks lose their concentration against some strong attacks and Bolton scored three goals in quick succession on 25, 27, and 28 minutes. It was 3-3 at half time; the game was there for the taking from either side.

Bolton started the second half strong and the Hawks couldn't get their flow back. Bolton scored on 34 minutes bringing it to 4-3. Although Bolton were strong, the Hawks fought well and had some great chances but were stretched against a strong attacking side. Bolton scored again on 40 minutes but the Hawks never stopped working hard with excellent strength of play from Williams, Wilkinson working the wing, and Blackburn attacking. The defence was further supported from Young and Dawson who worked hard against the Bolton attacks.

Unfortunately Bolton hadn't finished scoring and added to their tally on 49 and 50 minutes brining the score to 7-3. The Hawks really showed their strength and worked hard to get back in to the game. Every player on the pitch played their part from goal through to attack. Freer and Bingham added more speed and strength and the Hawks were rewarded on 56 minutes when Millard scored following a strong run. The Hawks weren't finished there and another goal came on 59 minutes from Millard as a result of excellent team play.

It finished 7-5 to Bolton. A great game all round which allowed the Hawks to prove their strength, ability and resilience against a very good Bolton Wanderers side. Well done girls and high five to Eve Hadley who was deservedly awarded player of the match.
