Hawks see out another great win on the coast!

From the start, Isabelle Dawson went in goal with Meadow Young and Zoe Green in defence. Phoebe Williams, Sienna Limbert, and Fern Ashworth went in midfield with Emily Blackburn upfront. Poppy Millard, Daisy Halewood, and Alex Wilkinson started the game as subs.

A welcome break in the weather meant a nice sunny trip to St Anne’s for the Hawks latest away game. From kick off it was obvious that this wasn’t going to be an easy game for the Hawks. Both teams started with great periods of attack backed up with solid defending.

It was the Hawks who scored first when Blackburn slotted home on 8 minutes. St Anne’s quickly regrouped and pushed the Hawks which was rewarded with a goal in the 13th minute. Millard, Halewood, and Wilkinson joined the game half way through the first half and continued where the others had left with excellent positioning and attacking play backed up by a strong defence. Both Halewood and Young were unlucky to score on two separate occasions if it wasn’t for the woodwork and some great St Anne’s goalkeeping.

The first half saw just the two goals, but it didn’t lack action. Hawks defence was amazing with fantastic play from Green and Young who dealt with St Anne’s attacking play. It is worth noting that it was Dawson’s first time in goal to cover for the injured Hadley and she didn’t disappoint; not easy when it’s your first time between the sticks.

The second half started quickly with a penalty awarded to the Hawks on 26 minutes which was expertly dispatched by Limbert. This goal was quickly followed by a great assist from Millard and a fantastic goal from Wilkinson in 27 minutes which could be tagged as ‘top bins’.

The game once again settled down and St Anne’s worked their way back and were putting together some great attacking periods putting the Hawks under pressure on many occasions. Every player for the Hawks put in a shift to keep the score where it was including a great play from Halewood, Green and Young at the back throughout the game. Lambert and Ashworth providing the usual strong support in midfield.

The game was wrapped up by Williams on 46 minutes with a lovely goal to finish off a great result. Young was awarded Player of the Match for her fantastic work in defence alongside some great runs at goal.
