Another good all round display of football by the U1

From the start, Eve Hadley went in goal with Dixie Thirde and Poppy Millard in defence. Sienna Limbert and Izzy Dunn took the midfield positions. Alex Wilkinson and Fern Ashworth went up front. Phoebe Williams, Emily Blackburn, Daisy Halewood, and Zoe Green started the game as subs.

It was a busy day at Fearns Sports Centre, a great site for girl’s football with three Haslingden LGFC teams in action. As the excited parents saw from the previous week’s game, the Hawkes were ready for action from kick off.

Dunn got herself in to the game from a very early point and scored putting the Hawkes in the driving seat. There was some great football from the goalkeeper through to the attackers and the girls played extremely well as a team, communicating well and putting together some great periods of play.

Pendle Forest defended well and had some notable tools in their locker, such as great goalkeeping and some very good throw ins. For the Hawkes, Ashworth added a lot of pressure up front with Thirde providing very strong backup in defence. At various points, all subs were introduced in to the game and Blackburn and Limbert had both added to the score line. By half time the Hawkes were sitting comfortably.

The second half started the in same way as the first. Hadley provided the defence with the support and confidence they needed to push up further and Millard and Wilkinson, now in midfield, had their share of excellent chances.

Green carried on from last week’s game with strong challenges and great passing. Pendle Forest were stronger in the second half but with Halewood and Blackburn adding to the great team effort it was the Hawkes who finished the game winners. Following the game, Thirde was awarded Parent’s Player of the Month for her consistently strong performances in September.

A great all round team performance from each and every Hawkes player. We’re all looking forward to the next game at St Anne’s next week and hoping the weather isn’t the norm for a Lancashire coastal town at this time of year!
