Blackburn's Brace Can't Help Sharks Going Down

In the third meeting with the Wolves, the Sharks were hoping to come out on top, after a draw and a loss. The team was Louise Mackenzie in goal, Eve Hadley and Jasy Kay in defence, Grace Hadley, Issy Dunn and Daisy Halwood in midfield, Maddy Purdy and Emily Blackburn in attack, and Phoebe Williams and new signing Sienna as substitutes.
The conditions were poor but both teams didn't let it effect them. The teams were well matched up, with E. Hadley keeping a disciplined defence, G Hadley keeping the midfield together and Purdy and Blackburn making their darting runs up front. The Wolves scored first after breaking through the Sharks defence, 0 - 1. This lead lasted only minutes as the Sharks struck back through Blackburn; beating the goalkeeper one on one after a slide rule through ball from the laces of Sienna from within her own half, making the halftime score 1 - 1.
A change of goalkeeper for the second half with E Hadley taking over from Mackenzie who slotted into her defensive position. Sienna came on for Dunn and Williams for an injured Halwood, who would return later. The Wolves were looking more dangerous but it was the Sharks who made the breakthrough with a second from Blackburn after a raking through ball from G Hadley found her 2 - 1. Could the Sharks hold out for the last half of the second half. The cold and the constant rain were beginning to sap the Sharks strength and they conceded an equalizer with eight minutes left 2 - 2. Two clear chances for Purdy and Blackburn came and went. Then in the last four minutes the Wolves strength showed as they scored twice more to run out 2 - 4 winners. An impresive first outing for Sienna in the midfield. This weeks Man of the Match awarded by the opposition; Daisy Halwood - a great display of how to constantly find space and shout for the ball when clear - well one Daisy for her first award (and thoroughly deserved)!
