Haslingden finishing the season on a high

It was a great weekend of football for the girls who were still on a high following their participation in the Blackburn Rovers tournament the day before. Even the weather didn’t get them down which can only be described as ‘standard Rossendale’.

At the start Fern Ashworth went in goal with Poppy Millard, Ana Crofts Berry and Gabby Rosthorn in defence. Ocean Flanaghan and Alannah Pollard went in midfield with Hannah Derbyshire upfront. Gracie Wilson, Missi Harvey, Holly Taylor, Meisha Gamble and Lyla Cullen started as subs giving the manager a lot of options.

The girls started really well showing they are understanding their positions and sticking to them. The girls in defence worked really hard with Ashworth making some great saves. After a run of some great attacking the girls got their first goal when Pollard scored on 9 minutes. From here the girls pushed and and worked well right from the back throughout the team and were rewarded on 12 minutes when Derbyshire scored bringing it to 2 – 0. Burnley kept themselves in the game and showed great strength in midfield and scored their first goal on 15 minutes making it 2 - 1. This didn’t seem to affect the Haslingden girls and Millard, Crofts Berry and Rosthorn continued to work well from the back.

Substitutions were made and Gamble had some great chances alongside Derbyshire. Taylor, Harvey and Wilson also brought some great strength in midfield and defence. Pollard and Derbyshire continued to push and scored the fourth goal on 21 minutes bringing the score to 3 – 1.

After the break Cullen took over in goal and the girls were ready for another good half of football. Flanaghan had a great game and battled in midfield against a number of tackles but still kept on trying. She got her reward on 35 minutes scoring for Haslingden and brining it to 4 – 1.

The final goal came on 37 minutes with another great effort from Pollard bringing the score to 5 – 1. It was a great game from both teams and an all round great team performance from Haslingden. It was hard to pick out a star player as all the girls had a great game, but the man of the match award was given to Derbyshire.

Haslingden Burnley
Pollard (9, 37) (15)
Derbyshire (12, 21)
Flanaghan (35)
