New year, another win!

It feels like a long time since the girls last match, but they were all back and eager to continue the season on winning form. With Coach, Steve away on yet another sunny it was down to Ana’s Dad, Steven to take the reigns.

At the start Gracie Wilson went in goal with Holly Taylor, Gabby Rosthorn and Ocean Flanaghan in defence. Alannah Pollard and Meisha Gamble went in midfield with Fern Ashworth upfront. Ana Crofts Berry, Poppy Millard and Lyla Cullen started as subs.

Haslingden Girls got stuck in to this game from the start and it wasn’t long before they got their first goal when Ashworth scored on 3 minutes making it 1-0. They continued their pressure with some great passes from the back and were awarded for their efforts when Ashworth scored again on 7 minutes bringing the score to 2-0. The Christmas break didn’t seem to affect the girls and they made it 3-0 when Gamble scored on 8 minutes.

Clitheroe had some good periods of play and put Wilson under pressure on a few occasions, but she dealt with them extremely well. Substitutions were made regularly and Millard, Crofts Berry and Cullen came on at various times and made some great impacts on the game. The girls passed the ball really well and it was obviously they were putting some real thought into the game. Clitheroe continued to work hard and scored just before half time on 20 minutes making it 3-1.

The new tuck show was a welcome addition to half time and the girls and crowd were raring to go in the second half!

Clitheroe started the second half well and score their second goal on 30 minutes bringing the score to 3-2. Flanaghan continued to work hard with Taylor in defence and Crofts Berry, Millard and Cullen worked hard putting in some good tackles and excellent marking up. The girls also had an ongoing lesson in throw-ins with the referee and his regular whistle blowing.

Ashworth completed her hatrick on 40 minutes bringing the score to 4-2 putting some daylight between the teams. The points were bagged when Pollard score on 45 minutes bringing the final score to 5-2. A great team performance and a great win for the girls.

Rosthorn was deservedly awarded man of the match after an excellent game in defence. Well done girls and welcome back!
