Wet and windy win for Haslingden

Match Report – Haslingden Girls U9s Vs Clitheroe Under 9s
At Fearns Leisure Centre 08.11.15 – Wet and windy win!

With umbrellas blowing inside out it was always going to be a wet and cold game for Haslingden under 9s. Both teams and spectators respectfully observed a minute’s silence at the start to remember the fallen on this poignant day.

At the start Lyla Cullen went in goal with Holly Taylor and Gabby Rosthorn in defence. Missi Harvey and Gracie Wilson went in midfield with Poppy Millard and Alannah Pollard upfront. Ana Crofts Berry, Meisha Gamble, and Fern Ashworth started as subs.

Haslingden started the game well and took confidence from their great win the week before. Clitheroe, however looked stronger and defended well making the game an even contest from the start. Taylor and Rosthorn worked excellently in defence once more and dealt with some great attacking from Clitheroe which was backed up by Cullen in goal. Millard put in some good tackles to create chances whilst Pollard also picked up the ball to attack on a number of occasions.

The first goal came on 8 minutes when Wilson scored making it 1 – 0 to Haslingden. The great work in the opening minutes continued and Pollard scored making it 2 – 0 on 10 minutes. Clitheroe has some great chances and their striker worked hard to try and break down Haslingden’s defence.

Crofts Berry, Gamble and Ashworth all came on in the second half and helped to build on a great start to the game. All the girls fitted well in to their positions and started to work fantastically as a team.

In the second half Clitheroe started brightly and should have scored on a number of occasions but for some great goal keeping by Wilson and chances going just wide of the posts. As the wind continued both teams looked even and Clitheroe were growing in to the game, but Haslingden stayed strong and on 43 minutes, Ashworth scored a fantastic goal bringing the game to 3 – 0.

The girls finished the game well and with their first clean sheet of the season ended 3 – 0 with all players and parents looking forward to a nice hot brew and some dry clothes!

Rosthorn was deservedly awarded man of the match after an excellent game which no doubt contributed to the clean sheet. Well done girls and let’s hope we can take this great form to next week against Cadley away.
