Clitheroe put on a brave battle but no match for Haslingden

Match Report – Clitheroe Under 9s Vs Haslingden Girls U9s
At Roefield, Clitheroe 01.11.15 – No scary hangovers from Halloween!

It was a misty and foggy start to the morning in Clitheroe and the girls were raring to go after their half term break. Lyla Cullen started in goal with Gabby Rosthorn and Holly Taylor in defence. Poppy Millard, Alannah Pollard, and Meisha Gamble took up the midfield role with Fern Ashworth in attack. Ana Croftsberry started as sub.

It was a bright start and the girls really got stuck in with the first goal coming on 5 minutes from Pollard, which was quickly followed up by another on 6 minutes from Gamble, making it 2-0 to Haslingden. The girls continued to attack and struck again on 7 minutes when a cross from Pollard, was finished off by Millard. It wasn’t all attack in the first half and Rosthorn and Taylor did an excellent job in defence keeping the score at 3-0. Croftsberry came on for Millard and a further wave of attack and goals came on 12 minutes when Gamble scored her second of the game and then quickly followed up with a third on 15 minutes. More attacking play continued and Pollard scored her second goal on 16 minutes making it 6-0 to Haslingden. The whole team played excellent together in all positions and good defending with some great passes resulted in a seventh goal on 19 minutes from Ashworth making it 7-0 to Haslingden. It was all smiles at half time.

At the start of the second half Millard took up the position in goal but Clitheroe very quickly scored their first goal on 26 minutes. Haslingden continued to play well but Clitheroe pushed on and score a second goal on 27 minutes making it 7-2 to Haslingden. Haslingden played with one less player for a period of the second half and Clitheroe, motivated by their great play up front, scored on 31 minutes and again on 32 minutes making it 7-4 to the away side. Clitheroe showed some great periods of attacking and has some excellent chances, one of which came from a great cross in to the box which unfortunately couldn’t be finished.

With Haslingden back up to 7 players they continued to play well passing and defending well which led to Ashworth’s second goal on 42 minutes. Gamble struck again on 43 minutes and the girls were looking good at 9-4. Haslingden didn’t rest on a great score line and continued well through the second half. Ashworth scored her hat-rick on 46 minutes and then after missing a great chance managed to score again on 48 minutes making it 11-4. Just seconds before the final whistle blew Rosthorn got her name on the score sheet with a goal bringing the final score to 12-4 to Haslingden.

Cullen was awarded man of the match and it left the parents wondering whether copious amounts of sweets the night before for Halloween was a potential tradition which needed to be upheld for future games! A great win and a fantastic team effort from all of the girls.
