With Steve back from sunnier climates it was over to Clitheroe for the under 9’s friendly match. Given last week’s league match against Clitheroe the team knew this game might not be a walk in the park. With a couple of players away it also meant that the girls would need to play a full match. Gracie Wilson took the number 1 shirt in goal with Gabby Rosthorn, Missi Harvey, and Lyla Cullen in defence. Alannah Pollard and Meisha Gamble went in to midfield and Poppy Millard went upfront. The girls knew it would be a hard match when Clitheroe went one goal up on 6 minutes. Clitheroe has some great possession in the first half and Haslingden U9s battled to defence and stay in the game. Haslingden battled and created some good periods of attack and seemed to be settling in to the game when the half time whistle blew. Haslingden started the second half positively and you could see the girls settling in to the game well. The equaliser came on 30 minutes from Gamble and this goal gave the girls a real lift to push on further. Haslingden fought in midfield and Gamble scored her second goal on 35 minutes to make the score line 2 – 1 to Haslingden U9s. Haslingden continued to push on whilst defending well. As a result of a number of attacking periods, Haslingden wrapped up the game on 46 minutes. After a series of attempts on goal and subsequent corners the ball found its way in to the net through an own goal. A team of tired, but happy, girls left the pitch with another win under their belt. A great result taking them in to next week’s home tie against Burnley.
