A Tale Of 3 Keepers

A trip down the M65 today for a sun drenched encounter.
With Amani still not fully recovered from her shoulder injury, Rebekah once again deputised in goal. The game started at a very quick pace with Tanya and Emily working very well with each other down the left. Both of them providing an attacking threat and defensive cover when needed. Some excellent passing play through the middle with Amani, Alesha and Holly opened up some gaps to play the ball through to Alannah who was ready to run onto everything sent forward. Just over 10 minutes in and Alesha played the ball through for Alannah, who quickly despatched the ball into the bottom corner, 1.0.
Haslingden continued to have the majority of the ball in the first half, although Barrowford had a few chances. Luckily Rebekah was quickly off her line on all occasions to clear using her outfield skills. Amelia came on for Robyn and the transition was seamless, both players providing good passes forward and both having the pace to get back when needed. Ashy was a rock at the back with nobody able to get past her and, her partner, Hannah was pressuring the Barrowford attack at all times.
Half time 1.0 to Haslingden
Barrowford rallied after half time and put a lot more pressure on the Haslingden defence, forcing a few corners. One of which got them their 1st goal, the ball flying round the area and knocked in with Rebekah unsighted. The 2nd came shortly after direct from a free kick. The home team were flying now and Haslingden were struggling to get the ball forward. Barrowford scored from 2 more corners, one headed straight in and the other a close range shot. Amani went in goal to allow Rebekah to play outfield for a while to add some more grit to the defence. she was unable to prevent another 2 goals going in though. Throughout the 6 goal onslaught Haslingden still had a few chances to add to the scoreline but were unable to do so. Chelsey and Naomi rotated in midfield and played some good balls out wide for Freya and Tanya to use going forward. Daisy coped well at left back, with her opposition only getting through a couple of times. Amani felt a twinge in her shoulder after reaching for a high ball, Tanya quickly volunteered to take over in goal. There was still time for more Haslingden attacks though, Alannah raced onto a throughball and shrugged off her defender before hitting a thunderous shot which, unfortunately, hit the crossbar. It came straight back to Haslingden, but Emily and Alannah got in each others way and it went wide. Hannah then burst through the midfield and unleashed another effort on goal, only for this to strike the post too. Emily picked up the loose ball and played it back to Hannah, who made no mistake this time and found the back of the net.
Final score Barrowford 6 v2 Haslingden
