Haslingden Little Storms Bring Home Their First Trophy

Following success seen in the older Haslingden Girls and Ladies Football Club teams,
there has been interest from some of the younger footballers to join an under 7s team
from September. Many of our younger footballers have started through the Soccer
School sessions on Saturday mornings at Marl Pitts. In preparation, an under 7s team
have been formed called the Haslingden Little Storms and they attended their first
tournament on Saturday.
The team for the tournament was made up of Gracie Millard, Holly Speechley, Emily
Speechley, Poppy Jones, Olivia Newbitt, and Evie Hall. All the girls had attended some
training and had taken part in a couple of games, but they were a relatively new team
playing together.
There were three teams in the under 7s group and each team would go on to play each
other twice. ‘Finding their feet’ was the strategy in the first game which the girls lost, but
it gave them a chance to settle in to the games. In the second game they came out firing
from defence to attack and every player made their mark on the game.
Games three and four proved fruitful for the Little Storms with another two fantastic wins
in both. From start to finish the girls put everything in to their performances with great
attitudes. The fun and enjoyment alone was enough to make this a great day out, but
with three wins and one loss the girls lifted their first trophy as a team.
Their success was perfect timing with the annual Haslingden Girls and Ladies Football
Club presentation evening later that day. Little Storms took their first walk to the stage to
receive their trophy and medals; hopefully the first of many. A great day for the Little
Storms and the club; we will wait to see what these girls can do in the future!
